This is one of my end-of-study projects.
I came up with a project for a mini-series devoted to yokai, Japanese folk creatures, on the initiative of the Musée Guimet and in partnership with the culture-oriented TV channel Arte, with the aim of learning more about these creatures in an entertaining way.
This video is the pilot episode of this series, devoted to a little-known yokai
but has recently become popular again: Amabie.

Japanese folklore is very rich, especially as the representation of yokai is not fixed in time; new interpretations are constantly appearing in a wide variety of styles. The graphic possibilities and visual styles that can be used to represent these creatures are therefore infinite, and mixing styles can even be an interesting way of representing this multiplicity.
However, to reach my targeted audience, I still needed to use codes that they can easily recognise and identify. The challenge was therefore to use the
cultural references already acquired by the audience to take them on a journey between tradition and modern pop culture.
